Survey of Open Data Practices in India: Data/Information Intermediaries
Welcome to the survey of open data practices in India. As far as we know, it is the first of its kind in India.

The survey is being conducted by HasGeek <www.hasgeek.com> for a study we are doing on usage of open government data by 'data/information intermediaries' in India.

The study is part of the 'Exploring the Emerging Impacts of Open Data in Developing Countries' (or, ODDC) research network managed by the World Wide Web Foundation and supported by the Canadian International Development Research Centre.

More about the research network can be found here: <http://www.opendataresearch.org/emergingimpacts>.

This initial survey seeks to identify organisations in India that function as 'data/information intermediaries', that is organisations that mediate between creators/publishers of data and users of data.

For the purpose of this survey, we are *not* considering media companies (newspaper, news blogs, tv channels etc.) unless they undertake any forms of 'data journalism'.

Also, we are looking for organisations that undertake *substantial transformation* of the original ('raw') data to make it accessible for final users. There is no easy definition of this *substantial transformation*. It may involve cleaning up, reformatting, re-publishing or visualising the data, or other procedures. Sharing parts of the raw data without changing its original form may not be called *substantial transformation*.

This initial survey should not take more than 10 minutes to fill up.

We look forward to connect to you later for an in-depth study of data practices of data/information intermediaries in India.

Thank you very much for your contribution.

Sincerely,

Sumandro and Zainab
