Few community members participate in school board meetings and therefore do not have a clear understanding of the kinds of decisions a school board member has to make and the skills necessary to exercise good judgment.
As a best practice for finding great school board members:
1. Job descriptions are very important for most mid-level to upper level management positions and given the importance of educating our children, PEEP members feel the same is true for electing school board members.
2. The California School Board Association (CSBA) has itemized types of decisions expected of board members and PEEP members who have attended many school board meetings have verified this list as very accurate.
3. By promoting an ongoing nomination process we can find suitable candidates who may have been lacking encouragement to run well in advance of an election.
4. Self-nominations are allowed. Nominations are not binding and will not be publicized.
This form also serves as a signup for a PEEP mailing list and activities.
