About Dr. Lynne Morrow:
Dr. Lynne Morrow is a Grammy-nominated choral conductor and music historian. Her Spirituals Workshops are the realization of a continuing desire to bring African American Spirituals to the world.
Dr. Morrow’s work with Spirituals began in 2006 with a theatrical historical concert with a narrator outlining the history between the songs. That narrator was her mother, Claressa Darden Morrow, now 96, a teacher and storyteller. Dr. Morrow’s great-great-grandmother was brought to the U.S. as a 5-year old enslaved child. She lived until 1939 and taught her descendants about where she was from – Guinea, West Africa. Dr. Morrow honors her great-great-grandmother and all her ancestors with her work bringing African American Spirituals to the community and to all Americans. She is an Emerita Professor at Sonoma State University.
