2024-25 ARC Staff Application
The UCLA Cultural Affairs Commission's Arts Restoring Community Initiative is soliciting applications to join their General Staff for the remainder of the 2024-2025 Academic Year. 

Applications are open now and will close on October 1st at 11:59PM. There are several openings in distinct areas in the Initiative all centered on advancing the Initiative's and the Commission's goal to empower the sharing of the experiences of marginalized communities through arts activism and education entertainment.

What is the Cultural Affairs Commission?
The Cultural Affairs Commission is one out of the fifteen offices in USAC. The mission of CAC is to put on quality programming that sparks conversation on contemporary and social issues. The primary focus of the Commission is to program events with cultural, political, or social relevance that are accessible to all students. “Edutainment” (education + entertainment) and arts activism ("artivism") have guided the purpose of the commission over the past years. Specifically, the programs are meant to ignite conversation regarding current events, facilitate an exhibition of creativity, and also engage more student investment, connection, and participation. Our programs foster an inclusive environment that permits students at UCLA to challenge and exchange with one another to achieve intersectional solidarity.

CAC is a commission that prides itself in the passionate and dedicated work of its members. From Bruin Bash to Hip Hop Explosion to the JazzReggae Festival, our events are some of the most recognized events at UCLA, bringing entertainment to both campus and the greater Los Angeles community, all in a collective effort to promote cultural awareness and dialogue.
What is the ARC Initiative?
The Arts Restoring Community (ARC) Initiative’s mission is to provide spaces that uplift community through arts activism (artivism) and to address inequity by supporting underserved groups. As a part of the Cultural Affairs Commission (CAC), ARC is guided by CAC's guiding purpose of creating quality "Edutainment" (education + entertainment) and arts activism.

ARC is divided into three components, each of which contributes to the greater mission of ARC and CAC. 

The Funding and Finances (F&F) Committee serves as a financial resource for student-led organizations at UCLA as well as a donation-based mutual aid fund. Through the administration of the student referenda-funded ARC Initiative Fund (ARCIF), this group works to facilitate and support the creation of edutainment and artivism-centered events for the UCLA and broader Los Angeles community.

The Community Programs (CP) Committee creates workshops, events, and a variety of other projects centered around fostering a safe community space built to educate on and demystify the experience of marginalized communities across the world. The Committee enjoys a broad mandate for staff to bridge their experiences, art, and culture to produce creative and engaging art and community-driven events and programs.

The Advocacy & Artivism (A&A) Committee, or ARC Internship, is ARC's quarterly internship program. The internship is designed to immerse interns in the history and work of CAC and ARC while providing them with an understanding of the history of student advocacy and the intersection of art and activism, especially here at UCLA. Interns will have an opportunity to develop and produce a creative project and/or event that showcases the legacy of marginalized communities' empowerment through the arts, education, and political action. 

Above all else, ARC aims to build, educate, and collaborate to create programs best suited for the community’s needs, being guided always by a love for our diverse cultures, art, and collective liberation for all.

For the round of applications closing Monday, February 5th, 2024, the following ARC Committees have openings:
  • Funding & Finances - 2-3 General Staff Positions Available 
  • Community Programs - 3-5 General Staff Positions Available 
  • Advocacy & Artivism - 5-7 Intern Positions Available 
CAC/ARC General Staff Responsibilities
The Cultural Affairs Commission is looking for dependable and committed individuals who will take the initiative to take on Commission responsibilities and diligently execute their roles in ARC and their ARC Committee. As a General Staffer, you will be held to these responsibilities throughout the year:
  • Participate in all ARC Staff meetings, including All-ARC Staff & any separate ARC Committee meetings.
  • Attend CAC all-staff meetings.
  • Plan, execute, and attend the Commission's/ARC's events.
  • Attend CAC staff retreats.
  • Promote CAC events (flyering, on social media, by word of mouth, etc.).
  • Support your fellow staff and the Commission as a whole!
More specific breakdowns of roles for each ARC Committee will be provided upon hiring. All ARC Staffers will be required to adhere to a set of community guidelines to ensure a safe and inclusive working, learning, and creating environment for all.
