LGBT Freedom and Asylum Network Membership Pledge
In order to finalize your membership, you must agree to abide by our collective principles and our spirit of good will by agreeing to the following statements:
LGBT asylum seekers in the U.S. have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They have the right to live free from immigration detention, to paid work, to supportive community, and to the basic necessities of life, including but not limited to safe housing, food, health care, transportation, mental health services, and clothing. To this end, non-governmental, faith-based, and community-based organizations in the U.S. can and should prioritize serving and empowering LGBT asylum seekers and asylees. *
I agree to abide by LGBT-FAN’s organizational bylaws, which I can access anytime on the LGBT-FAN website ( This includes participating in LGBT-FAN conference calls or meetings at least twice per calendar year, working together in a collegial fashion to promote the well-being and empowerment of LGBT asylum seekers in the U.S., and being represented as a “member” of LGBT-FAN. (Note: Exceptions to public representation will be made for LGBTIQ asylum seekers or asylees who need to protect their privacy for legal, psychological, or security reasons.) *
