To be eligible for funding to purchase a smoke alarm, your child needs to be a registered member of Deaf Children New Zealand.

The maximum value of this subsidy is $800 (includes GST).

Applicants may apply for ONE (1) smoke alarm per deaf or HoH child in the span of their membership with Deaf Children NZ (0 - 16 years of age - applicants older than 16 can apply through other avenues, please email dana@deafchildren.org.nz if you need assistance regarding who to contact if your child is over 16).

Please note - Age: 5 and over - as per Fire Departments recommendation - Age 5 is the time that a child can recognise what a fire is and that they need to evacuate and the fact that it has a wire that is a potential strangulation hazard. We can not fund to children under the age of 5.
