RESIDENCY FAQs

What projects are a good fit for residency? Anything that requires deep focus and extended blocks of solitary time. The Hundredth Hill residencies generally have no creative output expectation from artists or other creative thinkers, unless specified in the call out or curated residency.

Do residencies come with stipends? We have some funding available on a project by project basis, depending on grant funding streams, which can often be genre-specific. If your project is in line with available revenue, we may be able to offer a fully-funded residency and possible stipend. 

What does each residence include? Each of our artist residences is climate-controlled and self-contained, including a kitchenette with refrigerator, induction cooktop, french coffee press, hot pot for water, and multiple small appliances, a private full bathroom, and all linens and paper products, as well as some toiletries, laundry, and dishwashing soap.

Are any meals or food provided? Beginning August 18th, we'll provide an assortment of breakfast foods and coffees in the Barn Kitchen, available for residents to prepare (and clean up) in the barn, or to take back to their residence. However a full-sized stove/oven is available for use in the Barn Kitchen, as well as other cooking equipment and utensils which Residents are welcomed to use. Aside from occasional delivery of eggs from our happy hens in prolific periods, or our hosting of curated or special residencies that include meal preparation for residents, we generally do not provide other meals or food. What are my options for meal prep or grocery store & restaurant delivery? Each residence has some pantry basics as well as a small selection of utensils and cooking equipment (Induction Cooktop, Microwave, Toaster Oven, Panini Grill, Airfryer, Refrigerator), and Residents are expected to prepare their own meals. The retreat is located approximately 15 minutes from the nearest grocery stores and about 20 minutes to downtown Bloomington with greater shopping options, so plan accordingly. InstaCart et.al. deliver here as well from both Kroger, Aldi, and Bloomington restaurants.

Do you offer any transportation? We often have an extra car available for residents for minimal use during their stay. We're located roughly 40 minutes from Indianapolis Airport, and 20 minutes from downtown Bloomington. Unless otherwise arranged, residents are responsible for their own transportation to and from the residency. The closest Airport Shuttle stop is at Home2Home Suites in Bloomington. Uber, and Lyft will bring you here from there, as well as from other sites and directly from the airport, so price your options which vary depending on time of day and day of the week. If you're driving in, we have plenty of on-site parking.

Can I book a self-directed residency or retreat? Yes! We welcome creatives and thinkers of all stripe to book one of our residences when these spaces are not occupied as part of THH’s programming. 

How much does it cost? Four our of our spaces are $70/night with a two-night minimum, with special rates for Indiana Residents. Our new visual art studio (the Arthouse) has a Murphy bed, a compostable toilet, and non-potable water station for art purposes and is climate controlled. Full kitchen, laundry, and restroom/shower facility are available in the barn roughly 200 feet from the space. The Arthouse will be available for residencies beginning August 18th, 2026. Price varies depending on whether the space is reserved alone or in tandem with another residence to include private bath and kitchenette. All residents of all spaces have access to barn facilities.

Weekly (up to one month), monthly, and seasonal special rates are available.

How far in advance do I need to book? We recommend at least 1-2 months in advance.. We can sometimes accommodate shorter timelines, so feel free to ask. There are currently no bookings available between June 15 and August 18, 2026, but there are occasional cancellations, so feel free to inquire.

Do you have WiFi out in the woods? Yes. In all spaces. Cell signal, however, can be a bit spotty, depending on your carrier.  It’s a good place to unplug, regardless! 

Are there animals on the premises? Yes. We have a somewhat homicidal but safely enclosed potbellied pig (who will wag his tail if you bring him food scraps, but will charge the gate if you attempt too long a conversation without scraps in hand). We also have a chicken yard full of hens (no roosters), as well as two farm dogs and innumerable wild creatures in the woods, including coyotes and the occasional mountain lion (Indiana sized and sighted only one time in 30 years in our woods).
