AZFO Santa Maria Expedition May 2025
Why the Santa Maria Mountains?

The Santa Maria Mountain range is the most under-birded region in our eBird Gaps project and is significantly lacking data on the status and distribution of birds across all seasons. To demonstrate this there is not a single Ebird Hotspot within the entire range! Our efforts will provide valuable data for this gaps area.

When: Memorial Day Weekend, May 23-26th 2025; Basecamp setup will be on Friday. Surveys start Saturday morning at sunrise.

Where: Full scale survey of Santa Maria Mountain range northwest of Prescott.

What to expect: Basecamp setup will be on Friday evening with surveys starting Saturday morning at dawn until noon. Afternoons will provide rest, leisure, more birding. This is an optimal time of year for evening owl surveys. Come participate as many days as you would like. Surveys will be done by both driving routes and walking routes that have uneven terrain with inclines.
