Thank you for your interest in attending the 2025 Western Michigan University New York Voices Vocal Jazz Camp in Kalamazoo, MI on
July 28th–August 3rd, 2025. Please follow the directions below to apply for scholarship consideration. You may apply for a scholarship as a solo camper or as an ensemble if your vocal jazz group wants to attend as a unit.
For scholarship consideration, please follow the four steps below.
1. Complete your
Registration Form and pay your
First Deposit. As we expect camp to fill up quickly, you must be registered with a deposit in order to submit for scholarship consideration. This is more urgent than the scholarship application itself.
2. Please upload a recent video to YouTube of a LIVE recording of you singing one jazz standard. You may sing with live musicians or a backing track as long as your performance is live and unedited (e.g. no pitch correction, overdubs, time-shifting, etc.). In other words, we want to know what you really sound like. If you've submitted a video for consideration in the past, please send a new video, recorded within the last calendar year. We want to hear the current you! Make sure the YouTube video is set to public or unlisted (not private).
3. Please write a brief applicant letter sharing your interest in vocal jazz and how attending this camp will help you reach your goals. You may also include information regarding financial need if that is a factor for you.
4. Please supply a letter of recommendation from someone who can support your scholarship application. This letter may include information regarding you as a student, vocalist, and professional. It may also include why you might benefit from the camp and why you should be considered for scholarship support. Please email this as an attached PDF, preferably on their organization's letterhead with a signature, rather than as text in the body of the email. If you have applied for a scholarship in past years, please ensure that your reference sends a new 2025-specific letter.
Please know the amount of available scholarships varies from year to year. New York Voices will employ every effort to make the camp accessible to as many campers as possible.
