Open to all levels of experience, backgrounds & interests.

The two-day workshop will include: 

• DAY 1 (Saturday 19th): A field recording day trip to Spreewald (approximately 1 hour by regional train from Ostkreuz Station), where I will lead a bike tour through the Brandenburg countryside and Spreewald wetlands, stopping here and there to listen and record sounds.

Meeting point: Ostkreuz Station 

This workshop/field recording bike tour will run most of the day, returning to Berlin around 8.00 pm 

 - Introduction to field recording tools and techniques using contact microphones, hydrophones, and electromagnetic microphones
 - Listening exercises
 - Time to explore the Spreewald's wetlands by bike while stopping for recording and having time to eat some local food and the Spreewald's famous pickles. 

• DAY 2 (Sunday 20th):  Workshop in Neukölln (at my house near Körnerpark), where I will share my workflow and how l go about making music with field recordings. There will also be time for participants to share recordings from Spreewald and begin developing their own compositions using the material collected during the trip. 

TIME: 12:00 - 17:00 (includes lunch break)  

 - Composing with field recordings in Ableton 
 - Archiving and organising recordings
 - Workflow and creative processes discussions
 - Developing a sound piece with field recordings
 - Sharing and discussing your sound piece (in progress) at the end of the workshop

Equipment that would be good:

Day 1:
• Portable field recorder
• Headphones
• Microphones (if you have them)
• A bike, weather-appropriate clothing, water and snacks for biking power. (If it looks rainy, we will travel by bus and on foot through Spreewald :) 

I have some hydrophones and contact microphones that l can share. 

Day 2:
• Laptop
• Headphones

Preferably, we'd be using Ableton Live, but any DAW is OK. Audacity is also fine if you are a beginner. 

I will give technical demonstrations and support; however, it is much more about being creative with your music/sonic collages (using field recordings) than about being technically proficient. :)  

Participants will find the workshop an opportunity to learn more about listening, field recording, and creating music with recordings within a DAW environment, while also sharing experiences within the group. The workshop also offers time to slow down and listen to the waterways in Spreewald.

Fee:

150 euros for the two-day workshop. 

• Additional costs are a return train ticket to Spreewald (if you do not have a Deutschlandticket)
  + 7.50 euros for bringing a bike on the train

Deposit:
20 euros to confirm your place.

Limited to 8 participants.
(Additional participants are welcome to join the Spreewald day trip only for a fee of 75 euros.)
