Dear District 64 Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade Parents,
It is time to encourage your child/ren to participate in this year's District 64 Science Olympiad to be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 (9 a.m. - 11 a.m. at Emerson Middle School).
You will use THIS ONLINE FORM to sign up your child as a participant. By answering the questions at the end of this form, you will be giving permission for your student to participate in this year's Olympiad.
There are 5 different events from which to choose. Video previews of each event and the actual form for signing up are found below. I encourage you and your child to watch the videos if you are unfamiliar with the 5 events.
PLEASE NOTE: Students typically enjoy forming a team with one or two friends. However, students sign up individually and are placed on teams once all entry forms are received. Even though there is a place on the entry form to request a teaming arrangement, we cannot always guarantee specific teaming requests. We do our best to place students on teams so that all children have the opportunity to participate.
About half of all parents will work as coaches for 2-3 person teams. Because practicing typically happens at the coach's home, parent-coach volunteers must complete the criminal history background check fingerprinting process. Teams do not become official until that background check process is completed.
ALSO NOTE: It is extremely important that anyone interested in coaching complete this process as soon as possible. The process takes much longer if parents wait until November, December, or January when offices are closed due to the holidays.
Fingerprinting can be done on a walk-in basis, Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. at the School District 64 Educational Service Center, 164 S. Prospect Ave., Park Ridge. Please note that there is no need for fingerprinting if a parent only wishes to help judge an event. Parents who serve as judges do so only on the day of the event and so require no background check.
Again, students may select one event only from five possible events. Learn about these events by clicking on the videos shown below. Then fill out the form at the end of this page to sign up your child.
Additional Information can also be found on the District 64 Science Olympiad web site https://www.d64.org/learning/science-olympiad. Thank you for your interest in this year's Science Olympiad.
