Decolonization, Hurricanes, and Solidarity: Oscar López Rivera Southern California Speaking Tour -RSVP-

Thursday, February 8th, 2018, in Moore Hall, room 100, from 6pm to 8pm.

This event aims to highlight the experience of Oscar López Rivera, the Puerto Rican patriot imprisoned for over 35 years by the US for seditious conspiracy. He was released in May 2017 and is coming to Southern California this February on a speaking tour where he will address Puerto Rico’s colonial status in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, the inadequate response by the US government. He will be raising funds for the Oscar López Rivera Foundation to support self-determined rebuilding efforts in Puerto Rico. Attendees will learn about independence movements in the Caribbean, while gaining insight and ask questions about Oscar Lopez’s experience as a community activist and former political prisoner in a Q&A manner.
