You can expect a response to your application within a week of submission.

Apply below to join us in Durham, North Carolina for the fourth annual Untokening conference.

On October 5-6, 2019, we will come together for The Untokening in the Bull City! Untokening Durham will showcase struggles, successes, and shifts from across the country in mobility advocacy, implementation, and engagement. The Untokening will also hold space to leverage learning from transportation-related development in the local context of Durham's neighborhoods. This two-day event will center the personal and interpersonal needs and expertise of people who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+, senior and differently-abled. Together we'll connect on issues of mobility advocacy, planning, and policy and will include a full day of transformative healing services for all participants. We invite our mobility justice leaders from other regions and fields to join us in network building, storytelling, and discussion.

About Durham, North Carolina
Land of the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation, Durham is consistently ranked as one of the best places to live and
work, known for its tobacco industry, rich history, friendly people, mild weather, excellent educational institutions, community-focused organizations, prominent research and medicine, and thriving arts and culture. Once dubbed “the Black City of Cities” and a model of prosperity, redlining, urban renewal, and disinvestment crippled the infamous Hayti and Black Wall Street communities; breaking promises of equality that integration would offer.

About The Untokening
Since 2016, The Untokening network has been building a tradition of sharing experiences of tokenism, sharpening our decolonizing tools to grow beyond it, and identifying actions to help guide the mobility system toward equity. The Untokening centers the lived experiences of people, particularly leaders from marginalized identities as well as leaders who are actively engaging, organizing and advocating alongside people within marginalized communities, to address mobility justice and equity. We aim to develop networks, trainings, and resources that support BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) movement leaders who want to bring their lived experiences within marginalized communities into their professional work.
