FAQs
1. What do I do as a trip leader?
You will be involved with working with the rest of the OWL team to ensure that Scripps students have the opportunity to explore the many resources that Scripps and Southern California have to offer. By this we mean, you plan and lead outdoor excursions that are open to the Scripps community.

2. What do you mean by excursions?
Current and former OWL trip leaders have gone on a weekend-long backpacking trip in the Sequoia National Forest, done a camping trip and beach hike at Crystal Cove State Park, gone skiing in Big Bear, sandboarding down sand dunes in Death Valley, the list goes on…

3. Do I do anything else besides lead trips (ie. how do I fulfill the actual amount of my work-study allotment)?
You are also required to hold office hour shifts at our office in Toll 111, where you will be responsible for maintaining gear and ensuring that Scripps students have access to the wide selection of outdoor gear we have in our office.

4. How much do I get paid?
FWS jobs on-campus are not exactly the best paying job on campus, but in the words of Stephanie Lee (SCR ’12) “Best job ever. You can’t put a price on that.” (But the price is $16.50 an hour).
