X Wrap Wire Weave

Copyright  Amanda Katz 1

This tutorial uses 0.8 mm “core wire” and 0.4 mm “coiling wire”.

Gauge: 10 cm of coiling wire = 5 mm weave.

Start two 0.8 mm core wires. The wires need to be

straight and parallel.

This weave works best visually with some space

between the core wires. Keep the space between the

core wires consistent.

Start a 0.4 mm coiling wire by doing 3 full

revolutions clockwise. A tail is not needed as the

first rotation anchors the coiling wire.

The weave works similar to a figure 8 motion when

crossing from core wire to core wire.

Aim the coiling wire so that it slopes up to be even

with the coiling wire on the left as in the photo. Not

sloping will make the wire crossing the space

between core wires shorter and distort the weave

later on.

Do 3 full rotations around the right core wire

clockwise.

Make sure that tension is consistent and tight so that

there are no gaps between the coiling wire and the

outside of the core wires.

Bring the coiling wire back over the left core wire

aiming it so that it will sit snug against the previous

weave on the left side.
