Hyperion Financial Lead Advisor Job Description
Overview
Hyperion Financial, LLC (HF) is looking to add a CFP professional with experience navigating the financial planning needs of young families in order to help support the firm’s rapid growth. This is a unique opportunity to work in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, while also helping mold the future growth of HF.
This is a W-2, virtual role with the opportunity that you will become an equity partner in HF.
HF is an equal opportunity employer with a commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusions among its employees and clients.
Our Ideal Candidate
- Experience working with a desired niche of Young Families that have some/all of the following:
- Young children
- Equity compensation (stock options, restricted stock, ESPP, etc.)
- Current/aspiring business owner(s)
- >$100,000 in student loans
- Current or aspiring RIA firm owner, who is looking for the right partner(s) instead of operating as a solo firm.
- Existing book of business is a bonus, but not required provided you are comfortable bringing in clients and building your niche clientele from scratch (we currently have a handful of clients in this demographic whom you would also be the lead advisor on moving forward).
- Experience managing investments “in house”, and ability to assist HF in evaluating a potential transition away from utilizing TAMPs.
- Entrepreneurial mindset. Prefers being in business for yourself but not by yourself. Intrapreneurship examples here and here.
- Enjoys creating niche-specific marketing content (blog, podcast, YouTube, etc.).
- Values having autonomy to take responsibility for their segment of the business, but also enjoys being part of a team and working in a collaborative environment while doing so.
- Has a demonstrated interest in the financial planning profession and enjoys reading finance books and listening to podcasts in their free time just like we do.
- Approaches this opportunity as a passion, not a “job”.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Attending weekly team meetings via zoom with all members of HF.
- Fully managing and owning all aspects of advice and the client experience as a lead advisor for a growing number of young families.
- Balancing onboarding new families with delivering the ongoing client experience to existing families, consistent with “the HF way”.
- Earning a leadership role in the firm as a knowledge leader, subject matter expert, and voice for HF.
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Being on your own. We work in a team environment and we believe in a single, unified approach to deliver the best possible experience to our clients.
- Compliance, bookkeeping, payroll, executing trades, and other business owner/operational type tasks. We have centralized resources to handle these responsibilities, and we want your focus to be on providing great financial planning and outstanding client service to the clients of HF.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- CFP professional with 5+ years’ experience in financial planning/wealth management. Lead advisor experience and additional planning specific designations (CFA, CPA, EA, CSLP, ECA) are a bonus.
- Experience with industry-specific tools (ex. Wealthbox, Hubly, Emoney, Holistiplan, AdvicePay).
- Team player attitude; no job is beneath you; willing to do any task to support the company.
- Willing to think regularly about how to improve. We want every team member to regularly think about how we can improve our lives as well as our clients’ lives; communications, software, systems, processes, etc.
- Great work ethic and time management.
- Attention to detail (without fail).
- Organized and process driven.
- Professional, personable, dependable, discreet, efficient, self-motivated, and goal-oriented.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and is comfortable communicating with clients primarily via email, as well as via zoom, phone, and in-person.
What We Are Offering
- Full-time, Virtual W-2 Position
- Salary will be dictated initially by any existing clients you may have, and will be further negotiated based upon your ability to assist HF with other operational needs of the business (i.e., Investment Management). We are looking for the right PARTNER to help grow HF, and we are willing to provide a clear path to equity ownership in HF.
- Bonus structure based upon total business revenue and revenue growth.
- Assistance and support (marketing budget, operations, client service, etc.) in building and growing the young families niche.
- Flexible schedule, unlimited vacation, company provided laptop, and company-paid professional and personal development.
- We don’t currently offer any group health, disability, or life insurance but we intend to do so within the next 12-24 months.
- We don’t currently offer a 401(k) but we intend to do so within the next 12-24 months.
You May Be A GREAT Fit If
- You don’t mind spending a significant amount of time during our weekly team meeting discussing what everyone’s kids got them into over the weekend, the recap from our latest pickup basketball game, or a review of the newest ice cream spot one of us just tried out.
- You enjoy the occasional (or sometimes not so occasional) after-hours group texts about our kids, sports, and everything else going on in each of our personal lives.
- You value the ability to live a non-traditional lifestyle (flexible schedule, remote work, time to pursue outside hobbies and interests, etc.)

How to Apply
As a small-and-growing business, we can only afford to bring aboard the best possible partner to join our firm. If you think this could be you, please send an email to mike@hyperionfp.com that includes:
- Your resume in PDF format
- A 3-minute (or less) Loom video describing what makes you the best candidate and why you are interested in joining our firm
Our Application Process
- If we are thoroughly impressed with your resume and video, we will schedule a 1-hour “get to know you” zoom meeting with our Founder, Michael Hartman.
- If the initial meeting goes well, we will have you complete a personality assessment prior to a 1-hour follow up zoom meeting with all HF team members present.
- If all HF team members agree you could be a GREAT fit for our team, we will coordinate scheduling a series of follow-up meetings with various team members, where we will discuss with you all aspects of the business (business vision, financial planning and investment philosophies, systems & processes, ownership & legal agreements, etc.).
- If all HF team members agree these series of meetings have gone exceptionally well, we will invite you (and your family, if applicable) to spend a few days with our team and families in Reading, Pennsylvania. All lodging and transportation will be paid for by HF. We view this as the most critical step in the process, as each team member and their family are truly family to every one of us at HF.
*Our office is very busy, so please do NOT try to contact our team through any method other than the process described above. All other attempts to reach our office will be ignored.
*Due to the financial nature of our work and the age of our clients, you will be required to be fingerprinted and pass a thorough criminal background and credit check. The credit check doesn’t need to be spotless, just not anything that could put our clients at risk.
