Tiny House Siding
3-Day Course
Course Syllabus
Finish carpentry consists of both interior and exterior work that protect the structure of the house and provide an aesthetically pleasing look. In this class, we will be focusing on exterior siding. Siding is the house's first line of defense against water, and we will cover how to properly think about water infiltration and drainage in your siding system, including rain screens and flashing. Siding typically terminates at a variety of types of trim including fascia, soffit, corner boards, and window and door trim. We will discuss different methods for terminating different types of siding at these transition points.
Hammerstone courses are open to women-identifying and non-binary folx as well as trans men.
Prerequisite: While this course has no explicit prerequisite, we highly recommend that students attend either our 2-Day Basic Carpentry Skills, Build a Bookcase, Build a Box, Build an Adirondack Chair course or an equivalent before participating. In Tiny House Siding we review the critical content covered in these courses, but at a faster pace.
Please assemble (find in your garage, borrow from a friend, or purchase new) the following personal hand tools to bring to class. The links give more information on what to look for when purchasing new tools. If assembling these tools is a financial burden, please let us know and we will assist you.
During this course we will side the tiny house that was started by classes earlier in the season.
