PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Plans, designs, and provides 18 teaching hours weekly, or equivalent as scheduled by the Dean which reflects an understanding of the program’s philosophy, objectives, and curriculum.
- Evaluates student achievement of curricular objectives and outcomes related to the module.
- Monitors attendance and student behavior and evaluates student performance.
- Provide instruction in a variety of instructional modalities when needed (in-person, online, and hybrid).
- Holds regular and weekly office hours to provide individual instruction to students.
- Assists in curriculum design, implementation, and assessment of learning outcomes each semester.
- Participates in regular professional development activities/seminars/workshops as offered by the AU School of Education.
- Participates in advising and guidance of the students.
- Assists in the development, evaluation, and revision of student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies within the policies of the institution.
- Contributes to program, departments, campus, and university extracurricular activities and initiatives including taking part in program and department faculty meetings.
- Participates in graduation, honors, pinning, and graduation ceremonies.
- Adheres to University internal and State policies relating to the job.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
This job requires any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and/or experience as indicated below:
1. Education and Training:
Minimum or Required:
- A master’s degree (or higher) in Linguistics and Philology in the following language areas: German, Chinese, Arabic, Uzbek.
- One to three years of university-level teaching experience
- Ability/teaching skills to use a variety of active and student-centered teaching methods.
- Working knowledge of word-processing software, email, and computer-integrated instruction.
Preferred:
- Good command of English - IELTS band score 5.5 minimum
- Experience living/working/studying abroad
- Research achievements such as original research articles in Scopus indexed journals are highly recommended.
Equipment Skills:
- Various equipment to do with the field of study
- Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
Personal skills/qualifications:
- Excellent command of the language (equivalent to IELTS band 7.5 minimum)
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Confident and respectful towards colleagues at all levels.
- A supportive, tolerant, and collaborative team player. Understands and works towards team objectives.
- Ability to self-motivate.
- Ability to plan workload but remain flexible.
- Ability to meet deadlines and display strong administrative and organizational skills.
- Capability to balance competing demands.
