- Ovarian cancer is the most lethal of female cancers.
- In the USA approx.19,880 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year.
- 31 weeks is the average time it takes a woman to be diagnosed with ovarian cancer from when she first notices symptoms.
- One out of every 78 females in the USA, will get ovarian cancer during their lifetime.
- 1 in 2 women diagnosed with ovarian cancer will die from their disease.
If nothing is done to change these statistics, by 2050 8 million lives will be lost to ovarian cancer.
Cervical Pap smear tests do NOT detect ovarian cancer. In fact, there is yet no reliable screening test for ovarian cancer. Symptom awareness is key to early detection and survival outcome.
Symptoms include:
Bloating and feeling full, stomach-ache or indigestion, back-ache, changes in bladder and bowel control.
The symptoms can be occasional and increasingly more persistent as the ovarian cancer grows. If you have any concerns, consult with a healthcare professional, and ask for an ultrasound.
What you can do:
- Know the symptoms and spread Ovarian Cancer awareness.
- Advocate for more US Government funding towards research for a test and a cure.
- Donate funding directly towards much needed Scientific Research into this deadly disease, through The Powell-Drescher Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.
