Lighting the Path & Ringing of the Bells

Welcome & Greeting - Pastor

*Call to Worship  (Psalm 78)                                                                Joan Stott

Leader:        We come to worship and praise our God,
and to explore the wonders of our God.

People:        How great and wonderful is our compassionate God.

Leader:        We come, with ears and hearts open to God,
ready to discover God’s mysteries and miracles.

People:        How generous and caring is our unchanging God.

Leader:        We gather to share together in our common history,
and to experience the enrichment which faith brings us.

People:        All praise to God for past and present blessings,

and for God’s merciful love and grace.

*Prayer of Praise and Adoration                                        Living Waters for the World

Leader:        God, you split rocks in the wilderness,
and gave your people abundant drink, as from the deep.

People:        Come to us, Lord,
give us that abundant water.

Leader:        You made streams come out of the rock,
and caused waters to flow down like rivers.

People:        Come to us, Lord,
send the living waters down upon us.

Leader:        You fill the desert into oases,
the parched land into springs of water.

People:        Come to us, Lord,
create springs in the parched desert of our hearts.

Leader:        As a deer longs for flowing streams,
so my soul longs for you, O God.

People:        My soul thirsts for the living God.
Come to us, Lord, and fulfill our longing.
  Amen

*Opening Hymn:          O God of Vision (#288 Vs. 1 & 3)                                 LOBE DEN HERREN

O God of Vision far greater than all human scheming,

gather us now in your presence, refreshing, redeeming.

Show us anew life in your breath-taking view,

lovely beyond all our dreaming.

Grant to us insight, O God, for this time of decision.

May we dream challenging dreams of both depth and precision.

Speak through the dark.

Dispel by lightning’s bright spark whatever clouds dim our vision.

*Passing the Peace – please wave to others in our church family.

*Carrying the Light into the World: The Blessing, Alleluia & Benediction

Exodus 17:1-7

From the wilderness of Sin, the whole congregation of the Israelites journeyed by stages, as the Lord commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. The people quarreled with Moses, and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?” But the people thirsted there for water; and the people complained against Moses and said, “Why did you bring us out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and livestock with thirst?” So, Moses cried out to the Lord, “What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me.” The Lord said to Moses, “Go on ahead of the people, and take some of the elders of Israel with you; take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. I will be standing there in front of you on the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it, so that the people may drink.” Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel. He called the place Massah and Meribah, because the Israelites quarreled and tested the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
