Dear Greenburgh Community:

It has been wonderful to see so many students and families visiting our schools this week. We had hundreds of parents and caregivers participate in Take Your Child to School Day in the elementary and intermediate schools and I want to thank them for taking the time to engage with our district, as well as to thank our principals and faculty for the warm welcome they provided to all.

We also had several back-to-school nights this week, which is another opportunity for our families to connect with the administration, teachers and other caregivers. As I mentioned during my brief remarks, our main goal is to see your child succeed - academically, socially and emotionally. If you have questions or need something, please reach out to your child’s teacher or principal. I, along with my team, are also here for you should you have questions or ideas about district policies or need additional guidance.

In recent months, the District has been sharing information about our upcoming bond vote for the Capital Construction Phase II Project. As a reminder, the date is October 17th from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and will be held in the Woodlands Middle High School gymnasium. We will be hosting two information sessions for the community about the proposed bond on Wednesday, September 27 and Wednesday, October 4. Both sessions are from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Woodlands Middle High School auditorium located at 475 W. Hartsdale Ave. in Hartsdale.

The proposed total cost for the Capital Construction Phase II is $13,625,000. The funding for this project will come from three revenue sources:

1. the District was awarded a $500,000 grant from NYS Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins
2. the District will present a resolution to use $3,500,000 from the Capital Reserve
3. the District will present a resolution for a bond in the amount of $9,625,000

In consultation with the District's Finance and Facilities Committee, which includes representation from the Board of Education, administration, and community, the following projects have been identified:      

• replacement of roofs at four of our schools
• new 8-lane track at WMHS
• new tennis courts at WMHS

This week, students in the Early Childhood Program, Lee F. Jackson, Highview, and Richard J. Bailey were the recipients of more than 1,000 books and approximately 2,000 new toys as part of the “Unplug & Play” initiative which encourages children to play without using electronics. The program is courtesy of United Way of Westchester and Putnam, Toys for Tots, and Good360, and we appreciate our GCSD PTA volunteers for assisting with distribution.

Finally, I want to remind you that our schools and district offices are closed on Monday, September 25th for Yom Kippur, and I wish those observing the holiday an easy fast. I hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy the onset of the Fall season.

Estimada Comunidad de Greenburgh:

Ha sido maravilloso ver a tantos estudiantes y familias visitando nuestras escuelas esta semana. Cientos de padres y cuidadores participaron en el Día de Llevar a su Hijo a la Escuela en las escuelas primarias e intermedias y quiero agradecerles por tomarse el tiempo para interactuar con nuestro distrito, así como agradecer a nuestros directores y profesores por la cálida bienvenida. proporcionaron a todos.

También tuvimos varias noches de regreso a clases esta semana, lo cual es otra oportunidad para que nuestras familias se conecten con la administración, los maestros y otros cuidadores. Como mencioné durante mis breves comentarios, nuestro principal objetivo es que su hijo tenga éxito, académica, social y emocionalmente. Si tiene preguntas o necesita algo, comuníquese con el maestro o el director de su hijo. Yo, junto con mi equipo, también estamos aquí para ayudarlo si tiene preguntas o ideas sobre las políticas del distrito o necesita orientación adicional.

En los últimos meses, el Distrito ha estado compartiendo información sobre nuestra próxima votación de bonos para el Proyecto de Construcción Capital Fase II. Como recordatorio, la fecha es el 17 de Octubre de 7:00 a.m. a 9:00 p.m. y se llevará a cabo en el gimnasio de Woodlands High School. Organizaremos dos sesiones informativas para la comunidad sobre el bono propuesto el Miércoles 27 de Septiembre y el Miércoles 4 de Octubre. Ambas sesiones serán de 7:00 p.m. a 8:00 p.m. en el auditorio de Woodlands Middle High School ubicado en 475 W. Hartsdale Ave. en Hartsdale.

El costo total propuesto para la Fase II de Construcción Capital será de $13,625,000. La financiación de este proyecto provendrá de tres fuentes de ingresos:

1. el Distrito recibió una subvención de $500,000 de la Senadora del Estado de Nueva York Andrea Stewart-Cousins
2. el Distrito presentará resolución para utilizar $3,500,000 de la Reserva de Capital
