Charter

Definition of the UC Tech Community

The UC Tech community comprises people across the University of California who work in central or distributed IT organizations,* who serve as technology specialists but do not work in IT units, or who have roles that support the technology function. The UC Tech community also welcomes anyone across UC with a passion for using data, technology, and design in their jobs and lives.

Purpose of the Committee

The UC Tech Engagement Committee seeks to connect, strengthen, and grow the UC Tech community. It promotes and advises on various activities that encourage a vibrant workplace culture, enhance communication and information exchange, support professional development and career growth, foster collaboration across locations, and recognize the contributions of community members. The committee seeks to uphold principles of diversity, inclusion, and respectful communication in its work.

Committee Membership

The committee is a working group of the CIO Council and membership is comprised of:

The committee is co-chaired by two members representing a location and the system. The location chair is elected annually by the committee.

The UC CIO serves as the standing liaison to the committee from the CIO Council.

Committee Approach

The committee seeks to support a wide range of initiatives by primarily leveraging and promoting the activities of others across the community and, in some cases, directly advising about or coordinating other activities.

Committee initiatives are focused on the areas below to benefit both UC as an institution and community members alike:

*Central IT units report to the UC location CIO. Distributed IT units are housed in other departments, including academic departments, and do not report to the CIO.
