Our school board recently approved our 2023-2024 School Calendar. The first day of school is set for Wednesday, August 16th.

Will there be a school uniform? Yes. Students may wear navy blue or black pants or shorts at knee-length. Jeans will be allowed on certain spirit days. Uniform shirts are being selected and details will be shared out soon.

Will there be a required PE uniform? Yes. Our gymnasium is equipped with dressing facilities for students.  Students will be required to wear athletic footwear, knee-length black mesh basketball shorts and the required PE shirt.  Shirts will be available for purchase at the start of the school year. Please note that shoes with black rubber soles will not be permitted on the gym floor.

If my child was homeschooled or coming from private school will they need to be tested in order to attend your school? Yes. A placement test is necessary for students coming from homeschool or private school. Our staff will reach out directly to you to coordinate the placement test.

Will your school offer a Gifted & Talented Program? Any students coming to us from a GT program will maintain their GT status. Our early college intermediate instructional model is based on the principles of the Texas State Plan for Education of Gifted/Talented Students, which include high self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication skills. Our educators will be trained to support and deliver instruction commensurate with this program offering.

Will you offer after-school programs? Garcia ECI will be part of the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletic League. We will explore after-school clubs and organizations based on student interest and teacher capacity, and we are also exploring community partnerships to provide after-school programming.

What electives and/or sports will be offered? Students will take two semesters of Physical Education each year–6th-8th grade. The new campus has an indoor gymnasium with a competition-size basketball court, as well as a full-size soccer field for outdoor sports. We will offer various fine arts to include music and art. Our gymnasium features a stage with direct access to an outdoor amphitheater for various performances and learning experiences.

Does the school offer any transportation? At this time, there is no district-provided transportation. As we grow, this is an area that we will continue to monitor and adjust accordingly.

Will lunch be free? Families will be required to complete a lunch application to determine if they qualify for free or reduced lunch. Applications will be sent home the first week of school, and families with multiple children only need to complete one application.
