These are only the qualifier rules. The full tournament rules will be shared in due course.
The tournament has 3 phases: optional online qualifiers, onsite groups and an onsite bracket.
You do not need to have a ticket for SG Live to participate in the online qualifiers. However participation in qualifiers does not guarantee a spot in the group stage of the live event. The group stage is first-come first-serve for the first 50 people that buy a ticket and register.
The top 3 qualifier finishes receive guaranteed spots for the bracket and subsidised travel and accommodation. Only the top 3 qualifier finishers are guaranteed spots to the live event without buying a ticket in advance. Everyone who finishes outside of the top 3 in qualifiers must buy a ticket to secure their place at the live event. If the tickets sell out and you do not have one then you cannot participate in the tournament regardless of how well you may have placed in qualifiers.
Participating in online qualifiers is optional. However if you plan to participate in the live event it is in your best interest to compete so you improve your seeding for the group stage.
Qualifiers will use V30 with hints removed. Full settings:
There are 20 qualifiers races. You may compete in a maximum of 5 (completing less will negatively impact your score). Any incomplete races will be considered a forfeit.
We will also be implementing a minimum participant policy of 8 runners for ALTTPR Qualifiers. The effective time for the decision will be 30 minutes ahead of the scheduled race start (when registration for a race has ended). This is to help ensure meaningful data that may not be present at lower amounts of racers. We may be able to schedule a makeup qualifier if any are cancelled.
You must register in advance for the 5 qualifier races you intend to participate in. Registration for each race closes 30 minutes before the scheduled start times. If you wish to unregister from a race this must happen before registration for that race closes. Dropping out of a race once registration closes will result in a forfeit.
The scoring method is very similar to the one used for the ALTTPR Fall 2018 community tournament qualifiers. For each race your score will be determined as follows:
Of your 5 results your best and worst will be excluded. The mean of your 3 remaining results forms your final score (which will be a number between 0 and 100).
In the event of a tie to determine the top 3 overall qualifier winners, all tied racers will have a race-off using the same settings.
Inability to finish a race that you have started, regardless of the reason, will still count as a race that you participated in and will result in a forfeit.
Please do not talk in the qualifier race channels except for the necessary race commands. Do not leave an SRL comment until the race has finished. If in doubt, please don't say anything at all.
Make sure you are ready on time because the race WILL start without you!
Looking Ahead to Groups and Brackets
Players who participated in the qualifiers will be seeded into their groups based on their final score from the qualifiers. Players who did not participate in the qualifiers will be randomly seeded at the bottom.
V31 will be live for the groups and brackets. Equivalent settings are not possible to replicate but we will have them as similar as possible. Specifically:
