13th Conference of Young Demographers
1st to 4th February 2022 (TuesdayFriday)
Call for Papers

Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the Young Demographers in cooperation with the Association for Young Historical Demographers, the Geographical Institute and the Department of Demography and Geodemography of the Faculty of Science, Charles University we would like to invite you to the 13th Conference of Young Demographers.

The conference is planned for four days: 1st to 4th February 2022, and will take place at the Faculty of Science, Charles University, Albertov 6, Prague 2. All participants will have the possibility to present and discuss their current research with colleagues from other countries and fields. Although the conference is focused mainly on PhD students of (historical) demography, all young (in mind) researchers from various fields of population studies are welcomed. The working language of the conference is English.

It is our pleasure to announce that Dr Mariona Lozano Riera and Dr José Manuel Aburto will give key-note lectures. Mariona has her PhD in sociology and she works as a researcher in CED UAB. Her research focuses on the labour market and women‘s position in it. José Manuel is currently working at the LCDS at the University of Oxford. His work concerns lifespan and life-expectancy inequalities using methods of mathematical demography.

Following previous years’ successes, a workshop will be included in the conference program. The workshop will be organized by Dr Ilya Kashnitsky, dataviz magician and researcher at CPop SDU.

If you are interested in participating, please submit the title of your work, a short abstract in English (maximum 250 words) and 3–5 keywords via the submission form before Monday 22 November 2021 (only one submission per first author is allowed). You will be able to indicate whether you would like to submit your work as a poster or oral presentation. Please note, we intend to give enough space to those who will opt for posters and we put the same value on both. If you are undecided about the format we recommend the following: oral presentation for work that is (almost) finished and you primarily want to share its results; poster for work-in-progress that you want to discuss more with your colleagues or you are seeking advice for. The poster presentation includes a 3-minute flash presentation (short talk) as well. We would like to dedicate way more space for the poster session than what is usual.

You will be informed about acceptance before the end of December 2021. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide any financial support for your transport and other expenditures, however, there is no conference fee.

For more information please visit our website.

The program is subject to change.

In case of any questions please feel free to contact us.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Prague!

On behalf of the Organizing Committee

Covid-19 information:

Despite the current epidemiological situation in the world, we really hope to be able to meet in Prague in February. However, we are aware that the situation can change every day and we are monitoring it closely. We will do our best to follow all the measures given by the Czech government and ensure you can join the conference without worrying about your health. In case the odds will not be in our favour, we are ready to move the conference to either hybrid or virtual form.

We are grateful to all our supporters and colleagues:
