Utilizing a portmanteau, the term waterwayzgoose combines “waterways” and “wayzgoose.” Waterways, of course, referring to a route for travel on water (i.e. river, canal, lake, etc.) and wayzgoose, the name for a celebratory event that a printer would host in their print studio for their workers. Our waterwayzgoose celebrates the confluence of book arts and engineering feats, examining the advancements of canal engineering alongside the  printing and paper industries of the Fingerlakes region.

This series of events will be held in conjunction with Wells Summer Institute at the Wells Book Arts Center, on the shores of (and in!) Lake Cayuga, and along Erie canal sites in the Rochester and Syracuse areas.
