Attendance Guidelines for Parents During Online Instruction

Following is what you should know to ensure your child is counted present in his or her class/classes. These guidelines apply both for students in Plan B Transition and WCPSS Virtual Academy.

NC Department of Public Instruction Definition of Attendance

Attendance in an online instruction environment is designed to keep students engaged, to ensure they are on pace, and to offer academic and emotional support.

What Deems a Student Present in Online Instruction?

A student is considered present for daily attendance during an online instructional day if either of these statements is true:

and/or if a student is present in live instruction (for example, Google Meet).

Excused/Unexcused Absences:

WCPSS will follow board policy for excused/unexcused absences. Because the reasons for excusing absences were not written in anticipation of a fully online environment, schools are encouraged to show grace to the degree appropriate when requests are submitted.

Questions?

Contact your school with any questions related to attendance.
