Collaborative Vision & OutcomesIntro One strategic issue identified by all stakeholders at the August 2022 convening asked, “How do we ensure ALL students [especially those who have been historically marginalized] have relevancy, belonging, access, application, and support [in STEM]?” This question guides the development of the vision of the Science and Engineering Collaborative for the next four years. Vision The MiSTEM Council called for a Science and Engineering Action Area that works to “Ensure that students have Science and Engineering Literacy as a 21st century skill”. By leveraging resources and commitment from collaborative members across the state, the Sci/Egr AA will empower, facilitate, and deliver high-quality, boundary-spanning STEM education that educates all children through an equitable, inclusive, and holistic approach. Outcomes As a result of the statewide strategic planning in August 2022, the Science & Engineering for Michigan Collaborative is committed to the following Outcomes: - Outcome 1: By 2026, a Science & Engineering Collaborative will be built to support an integrated STEM approach.
- Outcome 2: By 2026, the Collaborative will increase professional learning and on-going support in Project-, Problem-, and/or Place-Based pedagogy by 15% in every region of the state.
- Outcome 3: By 2026, the Collaborative will increase Michigan students’ positive STEM identity by 15%.
The Science and Engineering for Michigan Collaborative will coordinate with partners, including the Mathematics and Computer Science Collaboratives, and MiSTEM Network regions to ensure each of the collaborative goals are met either directly through Advisory Council grant funds or indirectly through collaborative partner resources. Working in concert with the other collaboratives to help to integrate and cross pollinate collaborative objectives and strategies across the state will ensure the work remains un-siloed and cohesively connected to address the needs of the state. Connections across the three Advisory Council Grant collaboratives have been pioneered and are rich with additional opportunities for expansion. For example, science students are achieving course objectives while learning to use and deploy computational thinking and coding. Students are learning that mathematics is a key tool for understanding science through collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data and using mathematics to represent physical variables and their relationships in order to develop and apply algebraic models. Robotics programs elevate the role and relevance of mathematics and computer science under our implementations. The Science & Engineering for Michigan Collaborative will also work to support Regional and Statewide actions to meet the STEM education needs of the 16 Regions connected through the state MiSTEM Network.

Deadline is May 19, 2025 | Mi-STAR Phase 1 Introduction to the Curriculum Training | August & September 2024 | Phase 1 is designed to provide an introduction to the Mi-STAR curriculum structure, and consists of two learning experiences: an asynchronous Introduction to the Curriculum course in Canvas, along with a total of six hours of live virtual or face-to-face sessions where teachers work collaboratively to experience key Mi-STAR unit, lesson, and assessment components.

| Cereal City Science Virtual Learning | July 15 - August 9, 2024 | Statewide K-5 science teacher training to ensure that elementary students have access to high quality science. This includes 1- day workshops for 18 different units.

This program takes educators deep into STEM best practices. Over a year-long cohort experience, participants hone their confidence and ability to: - Build a strong STEM culture and identity inside the classroom
