Guidelines for Public Computer Use

Due to the COVID-19 public health crisis, limited computers will be available to the public.  Computers are spaced to allow for social distancing.

Computer use will be 2 hours per individual, per day.  Patrons may login with their library card. Patrons without a library card may obtain a guest pass from Information Services.  The time limit of two hours applies to cardholders as well as those using guest passes.

Obtaining extra time by using multiple cards or multiple guest passes is prohibited.

Only one person is allowed to sit at a computer to comply with social distancing guidelines. Please reserve one computer per person, if needed. Exceptions may be made for individuals accompanied by children or family members.

Please ask at the Information Desk for keyboard and mouse covers. The coverings should be removed and disposed of at the end of the session by the patron.

Headphones will not be provided.  Patrons should bring their own headphones to use on the library’s computers.

Printing costs are $.10 for black and white print outs, and $0.25 for color print outs. Please see a library staff member in User Services to add funds to your SAM account for printing.

Time extensions will not be granted even if computers are available. Only under extenuating circumstances may a user receive extra time and will only be granted at the discretion of the supervisor on duty.

At each branch, there are computers designated for scanning. Patrons utilizing the scanning computers for other uses may be asked to end their session if another patron requires the scanner.

Library Catalog computers are temporarily unavailable. When available they are intended for catalog searching only.

Piscataway Public Library is not responsible for time or data lost due to computer failure.

Warnings will appear prior to the end of your computer session at 15, 10, and 5 minutes left in the session. Failure to comply with these warnings will result in the loss of your work.

Documents cannot be saved to the library’s computer, and should be saved to an external device or cloud-based storage.

The Library has the following items available for purchase:
