La Rhonda Crosby-Johnson is a proud native of Oakland, CA. She cannot remember a time when she hasn’t loved stories. Her early audiences were her mother and younger sister. At the urging of friend and mentor, Blanche Richardson, La Rhonda attended author Tina McElroy Ansa’s first Sea Island Writer’s Retreat on Sapelo Island in 2004. It was there that she began to see herself as a writer.
La Rhonda is a contributor to the award-winning Life’s Spices From Seasoned Sistahs anthology series, Go Tell Michelle: African American Women Write To The New First Lady, All The Women In My Family Sing and is the author of an e-book serial novel Jubilee’s Journey. Unveiled, released in July 2019 and described as a “page turner” is her first full-length novel. Also in 2019, La Rhonda joined forces with writers, Dera R. Williams, Sheryl Lister and Suzette D. Harrison to form Black Girls Write. BGW highlights the unique and often overlooked creative voice of Black women writers. Always one to push her talents to the limit, 2021 saw the release of La Rhonda’s first young adult novella, Natural Nia. She is a part of the inaugural faculty for New York’s Midnight & Indigo’s writing series. Her workshop, Honoring Your Writing Process launched in March 2022.
La Rhonda is currently working on her next novel.
