There have been many efforts across the country from students, teachers, and activists, including the March 9th letter by senators and representatives from a variety of states, who have advocated for the need to cancel federal testing.
Due to the country’s current climate, to test students and use that data to determine whether they have mastered the content, their readiness to progress to the next grade, and whether or not teachers have adequately done their job under unprecedented and arduous circumstances is socially unjust.
We need a complete national moratorium on standardized testing right now. It is impractical to administer these tests with fidelity and integrity; furthermore, to evaluate students and teachers using invalid data is senseless and further exacerbates existing disparities.
What are you doing to support this movement? What are you doing to protect our students and families? What policies are you reviewing to address these concerns?
