CANADA DAY FUN RACE

Tuesday July 1, 2025

SKIPPERS MEETING: 1130 hrs                          FIRST SIGNAL: 1230 hrs

GENERAL: The Canada Day Fun Race is a 'Pursuit Race'. This race differs from others by having boats 'pay' their handicap before they start. In theory, if each boat sails to their handicap, all boats should finish at the same time. The crew that sails closest to their rating will win. The payment system is based on a 7.1 nautical mile race and the PHRF-LO 'time on distance' ratings.

START PROCESS: The sequence will follow RRS 26 with the following modification/s:

At or before the Preparatory signal, the time of the first start (e.g. 1235 for a 1230 preparatory signal) will be displayed from the KYC Breakwall and remain on display for all starts. The first start will be signaled by the normal sequence. Each subsequent boat will start 7 seconds after the first start for each PHRF point in their rating less than 230. (e.g. a boat rating 170 will start 60 x 7 = 420 seconds after the first start. See the Start Times Spreadsheet for details.) Note: use your NFS (no flying sails) rating to look up your start time in the spreadsheet.

No signals will be made for subsequent starts. Boats starting prematurely will be signaled in the normal fashion, and will have to return to the pre-start side of the line before starting.

COURSE: The start will be between the KYC Flagpole and KYC Mark V.

  1. Fly white sails only (i.e. no spinnakers).
  2. Change their helmsperson at the start of each subsequent leg of the race, cycling through all crew members as needed.
  3. Perform two 360 degree turns after the start and before the finish of the race, one on an upwind  leg and another on a downwind leg. Each racing boat can choose which legs they perform their turns on.

The finish order across the line will be the finish order for the race.
