General Information, Allergy Awareness and Sustainability

GENERAL INFORMATION

Please note the following:

• Please donate a minimum of 10 portions of food as we expect over 400 children to visit the sale

• Please drop off your donations in the lobby after 8am on the morning of February 14

• To cater to various diets and allergies, we welcome baked goods that are allergen free, vegan, gluten free etc.  These items MUST be individually packaged and sealed.  Please clearly label your donations if they are allergen free.

• Please bring your baked goods in a reusable container clearly labeled with your child’s name and homeroom.  We will return the containers to your child’s homeroom at the end of the school day.

• You may also wish to individually package your baked goods.  In consideration of the environment, we respectfully ask that items be packaged in biodegradable packaging. Please see information below regarding biodegradable packaging.

• Children will be visiting the bake sale with their class.   Please send your child to school with a reusable box with a lid and $5.  Items purchased will be placed inside these containers to be taken home to enjoy. Biodegradable disposable boxes will also be available for purchase at the Sale for $1 each.  

• Middle School students will be visiting the Bake Sale during their morning break.

ALLERGY AWARE

UNIS is an allergy aware school.  This means that students, families, faculty and staff are respectfully asked to refrain from bringing peanuts and nuts of any kind or foods processed with these items or their by-products, into the school. This includes products which state "may contain traces of nuts/peanuts/tree nuts” or "manufactured in a facility which processes" nuts/peanuts/tree nuts.

For the upcoming Bake Sale, the following foods will not be accepted:

This list is not exhaustive and parents should always double check ingredients and labels.

The products listed below are nut allergy-safe. Again, it is essential, that parents check the

ingredients. Although US federal law now requires that all packages are labeled with allergens,

companies change ingredients without notice.

Home Baked Foods

If goods are baked at home, we expect that all parents will take the necessary precautions to

prevent any cross-contamination. Please include either the box or a list of ingredients when delivering the snacks so that teachers and students can look through the ingredients list.

SUSTAINABILITY & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

To address our community’s Social Responsibilities, environmental awareness and reducing waste, we are adopting the following:

• Children should come to the Sale with their own reusable containers.  Items purchased will be placed inside these containers and taken home to enjoy.  

• Donations should, insofar as practical, be sent in reusable containers labeled with your child’s name and homeroom or packaged in biodegradable packaging.  Amazon offers many options of biodegradable packaging, such as these cookie bags https://a.co/d/hJViKlo
