CALIFORNIA IS ON FIRE. We MUST push our leaders to act to reduce carbon emissions and hold polluters accountable.

Here’s what you can do RIGHT NOW to protect our planet and help communities in California:

  1. CALL CONGRESS and demand climate action:

Sen. Chuck Schumer: (202) 224-6542 (DC), (212) 486-4430 (NYC)

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand:(202)224-4451, (DC), (212) 688-6262  (NYC)

Rep. Nydia Velazquez:(718) 599-3658                Rep. Hakeem Jeffries:(718) 237-2211

Rep. Yvette Clarke: (718) 287-1142                Rep. Jerrold Nadler:(212) 367-7350

SCRIPT: My name is… and I’m a constituent from…. I’m calling because I’m outraged about climate change and the Trump administration’s pro-polluter agendaespecially in the face of increasingly devastating natural disasters like the California wildfires.

Experts agree that the only way to reduce emissions fast enough to protect us from climate consequences like wildfires, severe storms, food shortages, and worse is by putting a price on carbon emissions and holding corporate polluters accountable. It is outrageous that while people in Puerto Rico, Florida, and California are suffering climate catastrophe, the Trump administration is giving tax breaks to polluters.

Will Sen./ Rep. ________ call for putting a price on carbon to reduce emissions and make polluters pay for the real cost to the planet of their industry? Will the Sen./ Rep. also demand that the U.S. rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement? Will he/she oppose any further investment in fossil fuel infrastructure like pipelines and offshore drilling?

      2.    CALL YOUR STATE REPS and tell them to Pass Climate Action Legislation THIS YEAR:

Background: With our new Democratic State Senate in Albany, we have an opportunity to pass two crucial pieces of climate legislation. One, the Climate and Community Protection Act (CCPA), would reduce emissions and require investment in green jobs and frontline communities most affected by climate change. The second, the Climate and Community Investment Act (CCIA), would impose a tax on corporate polluters and generate over $7 billion/year to fund the initiatives in the CCPA.

Governor Andrew Cuomo: (518) 474-8390

Your Assembly Member: https://nyassembly.gov/mem/

SCRIPT: Hi, my name is… and I’m a constituent from… (neighborhood/ zip.) I’m calling to ask… to support both the Climate and Community Protection and Climate and Community Investment Acts this year. We must take drastic action to protect New Yorkers from climate change. Does the senator/ governor/ assemblymember plan on aggressively supporting these bills?
