 Position: Pathways for Beyond the Bell – Graduation Plus+ Initiative (Guidance Counselor)

Brentwood Union Free School District is proud to introduce Pathways Beyond the Bell, a transformative afternoon program created to reconnect, empower, and guide 10th-grade students who would benefit from additional academic and social-emotional support on their journey toward graduation. We are seeking compassionate, innovative guidance professionals to help students thrive in a supportive, structured environment designed to strengthen core skills, build confidence, and promote academic and personal success.

Program Schedule

  • Start Time: 11:05AM – 6:00 PM (Afternoon Program)
  • Monday-Friday: Program Anticipated start date December 1

Student Support Services include:

  • Daily counselor check-ins
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Academic Monitoring
  • Family engagement
  • Enrichment opportunities
  • Emotional wellness and attendance support

Position Details: 2025/2026 Pathways for Beyond the Bell – Graduation Plus+ Initiative

Student-Centered Support and Advocacy

  • Ability to re-engage and support students who are credit-deficient
  • Commitment to providing a caring, structured environment for academic success and on-time graduation
  • Dedication to wraparound support, including emotional wellness, attendance support, and college/career assistance
  • Providing attendance monitoring and or intervention strategies including Home Visits
  • Guidance Counselor support at-risk students and or support project Graduation Plus+.

Counseling and Intervention Skills

  • Experience with daily counselor check-ins, individual and group counseling, and academic tutoring
  • Skilled in delivering intervention, enrichment, counseling workshops, and team-building activities
  • Ability to facilitate family engagement and enrichment opportunities 

Collaboration and Communication

  • Willingness to collaborate weekly with staff to review student progress and guide interventions
  • Strong communication skills for working with students, families, teachers, and administrators

Professional Qualifications

  • Valid NYS School Counselor certification
  • Experience with credit recovery, academic intervention, or similar student support programs is highly valued

Compensation

  • Compensation for 2025/2026 will be renumerated as per the BTA contract
  • Staff will collaborate weekly to review student progress and guide interventions
  • The program is supervised by Evening High School Principal Mr. Jerry Cheng
  • This position will be jointly supervised by the High School building principal Dr. Dashana Dulin, Evening HS Principal Jerry Cheng and, in conjunction with Coordinator of Guidance Wayne Abenes, and overseen by Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education Matthew Gengler.
