KNOWLEDGE FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE
Dr Charl Davids is a registered psychologist and Director of the Centre for Student Counselling and Development at Stellenbosch University. He currently serves as President of the South African Association for Counselling and Development in Higher Education (SAACDHE) and is Board Chairperson of Good Hope Psychological Services.
With over two decades of experience across higher education, public service, and community contexts, Dr Davids has held leadership roles including Acting Head of Psychology at the University of the Western Cape and Principal Psychologist within the South African Police Service. His work is grounded in community-engaged practice, with a focus on substance use, student mental health, and systemic approaches to wellbeing.
His doctoral research explored the co-development of community-based substance abuse interventions using participatory action research, reflecting his commitment to collaborative knowledge-making and social justice.
