Any long-time resident of Tuscaloosa knows that our community can and must come together during a major crisis. We are currently experiencing an unprecedented public health emergency and we need to lean on each other for support now more than ever. Considering the aggressive nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, we must all work to minimize casualties and stop the spread of the virus. Widespread cooperation is absolutely essential at this time. While COVID-19 has created an urgent call for the creation of our collective, TMA’s goal is ultimately to reach beyond our current state of emergency and create the infrastructure necessary for community support on an everyday basis - people should have access to vital resources whether or not we are facing an acute disaster.

Due to the highly contagious nature of coronavirus, “social distancing” is a primary priority. However, especially as our economy fluctuates, collective care is a primary priority as well - when one of us suffers, we all do. Collective care and mutual aid are about getting through tough times together. It’s simple - we offer what resources or services we can and ask for what we need. Our cooperation will ensure that everyone can take time off work without compromising their wellbeing. TMA’s efforts will go toward developing a deeper sense of community and reducing harm so we as Tuscaloosa residents not only survive our current situation but thrive afterward.

Practicing collective care as mentioned above goes beyond this current crisis to the next as well as improving quality of life for all of us on a daily basis. TMA is grateful for the larger community of Tuscaloosa that we intend to serve - we will make it through our times of needs in solidarity!
