Other Resources
I gathered these for my Asian American Mental Health course this past semester.
I figured I might as well include them here.
- “This proceedings report documents the diverse experiences of AAPIs around mental health, including the many barriers and gaps AAPI individuals and families face when accessing services. It also shares some recommendations on how mental health systems can address these barriers.” (report)
- Resources include mental health & self-care, responding to racism and xenophobia, family resources, faith/spirituality related resources, anti-stigma statements, etc.
- If you feel uncomfortable calling a crisis line, this is the right resource for you. “Warmlines” are for circumstances preceding a crisis. It provides mental health help for those who just need to talk to another person.
- This list provides Warmlines provided in each state, some of which provide national services (meaning you can call even if you do not reside in that state).
- “The Asian Mental Health Collective raise[s] awareness about the importance of mental health care, promote[s] emotional well-being, and challenge[s] the stigma concerning mental illness amongst Asian Diasporic communities worldwide.”
- Site provides resources such as hotline #s, an apida therapist directory, “ask a therapist” series, blog
- Web-based resource developed in collaboration with national AAPI organizations and community health centers to provide easy access to existing resources on AAPI mental health and substance abuse.
- Contains: Documents on Culturally Competent Care, Best Practice and Service Models, Fact Sheets and Health Education Materials, Articles, Bibliographies & Literature Databases, Policy & Advocacy Organizations, AAPI National Organizations
- “Things I Never Said follows the lives of four Asian Americans and their mental health journeys. [The documentary] explores [not only the] the reasons why people choose to stay in isolation, but also how familial cultural differences and the model minority myth contributes to social and academic pressures put on Asian Americans...” (site)
