How to request your amazon order history data in bulk

Who’s this for: Anyone who’s bought something off amazon and is filing an insurance claim for the contents of their residence in need of listing an inventory.

What’s this for: Assist in itemizing your belongings purchased from Amazon as well as parsing out the replacement cost data from every amazon purchase you’ve ever made. This can help to fill in the blanks for items owned and lost that need to listed for insurance companies in order to be replaced.

How does it work:  You can request Amazon to send you a file with all of your order history data. The data will arrive in the form of a spreadsheet (.csv) which can then be converted into a Google Sheet and collaborated on by any family, friends, and support people assisting with organizing an insurance claim. The processing time can vary, we’re seeing an average of 90 mins from request to receipt.

Why does this level of data matter?: It can be very difficult to remember the entire contents of one’s home, and credit card data won’t include each item in an amazon order so hopefully this information can help provide additional insight. Additionally, the more data you can provide about each item in your claim, the more information the insurance company has to accurately compute replacement cost data. (fyi this is not legal advice).

What you’ll need:

10-15 Minutes of prep

Your amazon login

Google Drive/Dropbox/Access to a computer connected to the internet

Ability to open a .xls file (Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, Numbers)

This will have an enormous amount of data, some useful, most not. If you scroll all the way over on the right of the sheet, you’ll be able to see the Product Name column. I recommend clicking and dragging that column to the left all the way to column A. There are many columns with information that you can delete.

  1. What to do next

While every claim is different and every insurance company handles this process differently, you will most likely copy the line items from this spreadsheet into your primary inventory of your home’s contents. This may be in a spreadsheet from your insurance company or public adjuster, or within your insurance company’s online claim portal.
