Whatever I can throw in a blender is what I'm eating. My teeth have become similar to an antique car that is never driven in the rain and is simply there for show. Hopefully my teeth do not get lazy and begin to fall out. I'm fairly certain I have dreams about that. My baby food concoctions never look appealing because I usually add seasonal vegetables. Sometimes the mix resembles a lava flow from the cooked beets I added. Other times an algae bloom broke out in my breakfast from the greens. Most often the color is a brown nondescript mush, which is what I ate today due to the higher ratio of beans and oatmeal to greens. But I never fret over the color and flavor profiles since I'm oddly into it for the nutrients and not the pleasure of it. At this point your brain is probably rewinding a few sentences and asking "Wait, did he just say he eats beans for breakfast?" Who eats beans for breakfast? Why the beans? The protein. No guilt. Who has ever eaten plain pinto beans and felt guilty for eating them later. No one. Beans are not like a bag of salty potato chips I mindlessly eat while watching an entire episode of Wheel of Fortune (who is this new host?). You will tire of eating the beans before the halfway point of the show. So, what was in my breakfast sludge today? - 1 cup of regular oatmeal (uncooked) - 1 banana - 1/4 cup of roasted peanuts - a sprinkling of flax seeds - a dash of cinnamon and cardamom - 1 cup of cooked pinto beans - 3 jalapenos from the garden - a handful of ice cubes - a spoonful of honey from the bee yard - enough water to keep the ingredients from gumming up the mixing process Bowel movements, guaranteed. Up Next in 2024By Patrick Gale Winter Series ‘24-’25 Winter Series planning is underway and race directors are scheduling the dates, getting permits/permission to hold the events, and working to bring us together for some fun during the cooler months of the year. The first run of the series will be the Donuts Run in October. Dates and events will be announced shortly. December membership meeting We are planning on holding our annual membership meeting on the second Tuesday in December at Ponysaurus. We will elect Board members for the coming year and vote on a revised club constitution which has been many years in the making. Stay tuned for more details and sign up in the next month. Club members submitted eleven results for August and one for June. The June results was the Military Matters VeteRUN 5km where Bill Harris won his age group with a time of 0:23:02. Despite the dearth of results for August, we had two quite unique results. The first result (56mi) was submitted by Kim Manturuk, who took part in A Race for the Ages (ARFTA), which features a very Godivan twist, where runners are given a number of hours equivalent to their own age (with a minimum of 40 hours) to complete as many miles as they can around a 1 mile loop in a Tennessee park. Finally, the most unique result was submitted by Roxanne Springer, who along with three teammates traveled to Gothenburg Sweden and took part in the World Masters Athletics Championships 4x400 relay and set an American Age Group Record with a blistering 0:4:21.1. To see the other results for August check out the table below and if you don't see your results listed Send Us Your Results!

Attended by Tom Hoerger (Vice President), Patrick Bruer (Webmaster) and Ben Barker (Secretary). Patrick Gale called the meeting to order at 7:08pm. Summer Track has concluded. We were pleased with the increased attendance and haven’t heard any negative feedback from the membership. We still have a good relationship with Durham Academy. Still, we will continue to evaluate what location options are available to us in 2025, with DA included. Patrick Bruer noted that we gained some memberships through Summer Track this year, thanks in part to inviting non-members to join at the beginning of each week’s session. Ethan’s financial reporting showed Summer Track’s expenses exceeded our collected revenue by $1499. The annual One Hour Run was held July 31st at the UNC Track Complex’s gravel trail perimeter. It was a very hot evening, but we still had over 30 runners log the full hour. Thanks to Bill Harris for directing, and to Anthony Corriveau for providing timing. The Board discussed upcoming Winter Series planning, specifically focused on what will be offered in place of Misery Run, traditionally held on the Sunday preceding Thanksgiving. So, what will we do on Sunday, November 24th this year? Ideas have been solicited from the membership. Tom offered his own idea for a trail run on the Neverland Trails at Carolina North. The Board liked his proposal, which included varying distances to be offered. Also, as a less technical trail run, it would be more welcoming to those who are new to trails. Patrick Gale will reach out to his contact at Carolina North to see if there would be any problems with our group showing up on 11/24. More generally, Tom will be working to confirm last year’s Race Directors are committed to providing their races again in 24/25, and their dates for those races. Patrick Bruer confirmed the date for the New Year’s Day Race and has submitted the permit paperwork to the Town of Hillsborough. Next up, though, will be our Cross Country Series kicking off on September 4th. Patrick Bruer will be Race Director again and has been observing the conditions of the two courses on some occasional runs. Durham’s Buehler Trail (9/4 and 9/18) will offer 5K, 8K and 10K distances, and the trails seem to be in fine shape. Patrick ran on Chapel Hill’s Finley XC Trail (5K or 8K, on 9/11 and 9/25) after the recent storms and was not sure the trail would be in good enough shape for our use. He has a back up trail plan in mind, if needed, and has set up plans for the series after party on 9/25. The Board continued its discussions concerning updates to Godiva’s Constitution. Following the progress at the Board Retreat in July, Patrick Gale made several revisions to the existing document. Additional discussion is needed around several details. The Board would like to hold a vote on the revised Constitution at the December Year-End Banquet – a full membership meeting. The updated Constitution will be shared with the membership well in advance of December, for members to review and provide feedback, whether positive or negative, to the Board for further consideration. Patrick Gale closed the meeting at 8:08pm. Assorted Member MusingsGodiva Weekly Runs
