Canvas Administrator Access and Canvas Sub-accounts
Colorado Mountain College faculty/staff can file a request with the Office of Innovations in Teaching and Learning to request administrator access to specific sub-accounts in the Canvas learning management system. These sub-accounts generally correspond to specific disciplines at CMC, such as English, History, Accounting, Business, Mathematics, etc. These sub-accounts contain all courses within a given discipline (“Accounting”, “History”, etc.). There is no organization of Canvas courses by campus: i.e., there’s no “Rifle Campus Accounting” sub-account available. There is also no concurrent organization of Canvas courses by subject and semester; i.e., there’s no “Fall 2016 History” sub-account.
Administrator access is granted on a per-semester basis only. Each semester a new request is required. An initial training is required before you will be given administrator powers in Canvas. Administrator powers will be limited to the sub account(s) necessary for faculty/staff to supervise the faculty working in courses that are within those disciplines. So, for example, if you are supervising business faculty, you would not have administrator powers or have any access to the Canvas courses of Spanish faculty.
