NOMADS has been presenting student-written dramas, comedies, musicals, multimedia, and interdisciplinary works since 2003. Many of our productions have gone on to be presented through professional festivals and theaters in New York City. We provide the most dedicated student-artists a supportive and progressive space for the original development of expressive, imaginative, and challenging new theater.
Black Theatre Ensemble (BTE) is a theater group focused on uplifting and highlighting BIPOC storytellers, musicians, performers and theater-makers on Columbia and Barnard's campuses. We hold workshops and bring NYC theater to our community! While our focus is on BIPOC storytelling, BTE is for everyone and we encourage anyone and everyone who is interested to be a part of our productions!

CMTS is an organization committed to creating accessible, fun, musical theatre. This semester, we hope to embody that mission wholeheartedly. We will work over the fall semester on The Rocky Horror Show (RIGHTS PENDING), a show that embodies radical joy and creativity. If you’re remotely interested in theatre, you should audition! Roles aren’t limited by experience at all. The show will be a joyful expression of individual identity, and, most of all, be fun! Expect rehearsals 8-11 pm on week days, and during the day on weekends, though you won’t be called at all of them! The show will be directed by Camilla Cox, choreographed by Sam Landa, music directed by Heliqiong Sun, produced by Diana Gregoire, and staged managed Emma Elizabeth Dempster. Come out and audition!!
KCST is Barnard/Columbia’s premiere student theater group with a focus on early modern, pre-modern, and Shakespearean theater. Our goal is to create exciting, nuanced, and fun theater for the Barnard/Columbia community and for the greater Morningside Heights. (Our shows are always free!) This fall, we will be putting on two productions: a mainstage production and our classic community showcase, ShakeScenes. We have opportunities for all experience levels, from students completely new to theater to veteran thespians.
The mainstage production is your classic KCST masterpiece: a full play put up on stage for many to see! It will have full production and creative teams, an ensemble of actors, and will perform for an entire weekend. Students fill all the positions, from actors and directors to assistant designers and
that-person-who-is-in-charge-of-snacks.
ShakeScenes is a casual, low-commitment, and funky showcase of short scenes from Shakespearean and classic plays. It is a space to explore theater-related interests and meet other students! Anyone can audition to act or direct, and everyone who auditions receives a role!
Email kcst.eboard@gmail.com with questions, and we will respond ASAP!
CUP is a student theater organization, specializing in classic and contemporary plays! No experience is required, many of our members had no theater experience before their first production! The CUP board will be there to support you in whatever position you take, and will connect you with students and alumni with experience in your role for any questions or guidance you may need.
This semester, CUP will have social events throughout the semester, a series of murder mystery parties in October, and a mainstage production in December direceted by Celia Krefter and stage managed by Jennie Yu.
CUP’s 2021 Fall production is a stage adaptation of James Joyce’s short story, “The Dead”! On a cold winter evening, three musical aunts throw their legendary annual holiday party, complete with an eclectic guest list of family and friends. Between the dancing and musical festivities, party guests matchmake, make toasts, fight and fall in love.
Everyone is encouraged to audition/interview to be part of this production!! No prior theatre experience is expected, just a willingness to learn! Because this play involves music, we are also looking for musicians of all levels to shape the soundscape of the party! The Dead is about finding a cocoon of warmth, joy and community in our often cold world. Our production will center joy and community both onstage and off — let’s reunite in the thrill of making theatre!!
More information about CUP and our Fall 2021 season can be found on our Instagram and Facebook, @cuplayers.
Latenite Theatre was created in 1995 by a group of Theatre and English majors who wanted to produce their own original works. Their first anthology premiered long after other events on campus had ended and prudent artistic sensibilities had gone to bed for the night - hence the name Latenite Theatre. Latenite continues to evolve while maintaining its commitment to the student playwright. Latenite Theatre offers playwrights, directors, and actors the opportunity to see their work on stage, giving them freedom to experiment, to take artistic risks, and, above all, to contribute to a non-competitive, inclusive, artistic community.
Latenite hosts one anthology per semester. The Anthology is a collection of short, student-written plays. The Anthology's plays are selected from an open, blind submissions process. The performance of the anthology is at the end of the semester, with the majority of the plays being performed at 11 pm.
Everything is being done so that the current season of Latenite can be put on like any other with the same number of anthologies, cast members, and directors. However, factors for audience and rehearsals are still to be determined as per the decisions of our advisor and Columbia’s COVID-19 policies. All this said, the whole of the Latenite E-board and community is very excited to be able to host the anthology in person and get to open up to as many people in the theatre community as are interested!

Orchesis is Columbia’s largest student-run dance organization. We believe that dance is and should be for everyone. Whether you’ve danced your entire life or have never stepped foot in a dance studio, Orchesis welcomes you!
Orchesis hopes to inspire and cultivate a love for dance in any student on Columbia’s campus--regardless of previous dance experience. We aim to create an inclusive space, where pieces of varying levels and styles are available to our dancers, and student choreographers have a platform to share and develop their art.
This semester, Orchesis is still planning on putting on an in-person show, and we can't wait to dance together again!
CU Ballroom is a group of awesome people who love dancing together. Whether you've never done a step-touch before or have won multiple open championships, if you love dance or want to give it a try, CU Ballroom is the club to join -- no experience or tryouts required. We offer classes in International Latin, Standard Ballroom, and Salsa/Bachata, as well as additional practice spaces for you to dive deeper at your own pace. Of course, we also host social events where you can show off everything you learned on the dance floor, and if you want to take that to the next level, we'd be happy to help you get ready for competition. Regardless of how far you want to go with it, ballroom dancing is a fantastic way to meet new people, and we want to share the fun with you. Our first intro session will (tentatively) be on September 27th, at 10 pm in the Lerner Party Space. We hope to see you there!
CoLab is an interdisciplinary student art collective at Barnard College/Columbia University. We deeply value bringing artists together to collaborate on the creative process. This is a space that centers bodies, consent, collaborative processes, vulnerability and risk-taking. While our main focus is on dance, choreography, and improvisation we strive to incorporate art of all disciplines into our showcases. Past performances have included live music, visual art, photography, film, spoken word, and more! If you want to make something we can help you do it. We are open to all, with no application or portfolio necessary. We did our best to continue virtually last year, but we are thrilled to explore and reimagine live performance potential this fall through our partnership with the Movement Lab! Check out our instagram @colab.cu and our website: https://colabcu.wixsite.com/colab to learn more and stay up to date, or drop us an email (colab@barnard.edu) to join our mailing list.

We then perform these pieces in our fall concert to an audience of Columbia students, the community, and beyond. We hold auditions every semester and are always looking for new musicians to join us!
