Hampton Week #1 COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Closure Information - 3/16/20
Hampton Hawk Families -
Based on the recommendation of the Central Nebraksa Health Department and local health professionals, a decision was made to close school the week of March 16-22 due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Our priority is the safety of our students, staff and community.
The administration will continue to provide as much communication as possible with the ever-changing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation via the PowerSchool alert phone, email and text messaging system. A staff member will be contacting all HPS families to verify current information and request additional information to assist with communication. Information will also be shared on the Hawk Nation Facebook page, as well as the school’s homepage.
We are committed to supporting all of our hawk families during this crisis. At this time we have created a Google form to request lunches for any student enrolled at HPS. Please use the LINK to order lunches as needed. This LINK can also be accessed on the school homepage. If there are other EMERGENCY NEEDS you need assistance with, please contact the school.
The goal of HPS is to continue providing educational opportunities for our students while adhering to social distancing protocols. On Tuesday, March 17th, HPS teachers will be reporting to develop academic enrichment plans for their students. Remote education (learner and instructor are separated by time and distance) may include the use of Zoom, Google Classroom, and other virutal apps that would allow instructors to continue delivering enrichment activities. Students with an IEP or 504 plan will be contacted by Deb Joseph, Sammy Spirk, or Jan Ediger.
The school building will be open on Wednesday, March 18 starting at 11:30 AM until 7:00 PM for students and families to pick up materials and check out devices (grades K-6). Students can also collect any items from their lockers at that time. We will monitor the number of individuals in the school building and proximity according to social distancing guidelines. A list will be provided to parents/families with necessary resources students will need to collect while in the building. If you are unable to attend on Wednesday, March 18th, please contact the office (402-725-3116) to schedule an alternate day/time. Instruction will begin with students on Thursday, March 19.
*All K-6 students will be issued a chromebook and parents/guardians will need to be present to sign a loan agreement form.
From Jay Bellar, director of the Nebraska School Activities Association, “Effective Monday, March 16 all NSAA activity practices are suspended until Monday, March 30 and all NSAA activity competitions are suspended until Thursday, April 2. These suspensions may be extended should the conditions warrant.”
At this time, the Hampton band trip to Kansas City has been cancelled. We will continue to reassess the possibility of rescheduling the trip in the fall of 2020. Cheerleading try-outs will be rescheduled at a later date. The administration will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation before making any final decisions regarding the Activities Banquet scheduled for April 4th. Coaches and activity sponsors may be in communciation with students to encourage individual practice plans for music, speech, track, cheer, FFA, etc.
The administration will continue to work with other local school districts and our community health and government officials. This is a very fluid situation and changes may occur on a day to day basis. We will continue to give updates as we can via our PowerSchool messaging system, Hawk Nation Facebook page and the school homepage. It will be imperative you read all information in the coming days and weeks.
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work through this very unique situation.
Holly J. Herzberg, Superintendent
