Minerva Teichert “Christ in His Red Robe”

Pixelated file was created by Allen Berg

Paint by Letters

SUPPLIES:

  • Print out this file at 79%. (In printer settings)
  • Canvas tiles (you need 108)
  • Q-tips to tap paint onto canvas
  • Because we did this at girls camp, we used small 4 oz. cups + lids with letters written on each and glued them to plates to keep everything together.
  • E6000 glue to glue canvas to backing board (cheaper at Hobby Lobby) used 2
  • 37” x 60” board to glue canvas rectangles
  • Finishing spray to protect paint
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Found the below paint colors at Walmart, Hobby Lobby, and Michael’s
  • Amounts listed are how much we used, definitely had some leftover, but that’s what was put into the plastic cups with the lids

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Write the letter & number on the back of each canvas as well as an arrow for which way is up. (Once it is painted, it’s hard to tell) Tiles go vertically.
  • For best results, the canvas should have no white space. Take the color all the way to the edge of the canvas to blend best when put together. (Make sure to tell everyone working on it to do this, otherwise your painting won't work out.)

PAINTING:

There’s nothing more small or simple than tapping little dots with q-tips on a paper.  Right?  Match the color with the letter and tap tap tap.  This is an exercise in how our actions, no matter how small or simple, can create something powerful and mighty, especially when we work together.

My dear young women, I want you to know that I understand how so often you may find yourselves working away in obscurity in your home, at school, in your young women’s classes, in your circles of friends.  I see you trying to do good in a million small ways, but unsure of the value of that contribution.  But then, when we are allowed a higher perspective, we can see the big picture, and not only the wonderful, mighty things our simple efforts have created, but also how other’s offerings, totally different than our own, can result in something much bigger than the sum or its parts.

This is what our camp theme is about. Listen to these scriptures and think of the work you have completed:

“Wherefore, be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a great work, and out of small things, proceedeth that which is great.”  D&C 64:33

“By small and simple things are great things brought to pass.”  Alma 37:6. Alma confirms for his son, that indeed the pattern of the Lord follows when we exercise faith in Him and follow his counsel in small and simple things is that he blesses us with small daily miracles, and over time, with marvelous works.”

You did this. You created this powerful & mighty, beautiful & magical portrait of our Savior, one little dot at a time.  Please remember this. As we are nearing the end of our time together at camp, I hope you take this metaphor with you back in your individual lives.  Remember how the small and simple things can help you in your relationships with our Heavenly Parents and our Savior, with each other as friends, and with ourselves to create mighty miracles and great works.

President Nelson recently taught, “As we seek to be disciples of Jesus Christ, our efforts to Hear Him need to be ever more intentional.  It takes conscious and consistent effort to fill our daily lives with His words, his teachings, His truths.”
