Dear Hybe Entertainment and BTS!

In preparation for the upcoming album “Proof,” your company released the tracklist and we learned that the song titled “Filter” would be included in CD2. One of the people credited for this particular song is Bobby Chung. Chung has been repeatedly accused of sexual assault, secretly filming and publicizing his sexual partners without consent. Because of his predatory behavior, one of his victims, Ms. Song, died by suicide on April 2020.

While these accusations have been brought up after the first release of the track, it is indeed very questionable to include the song now that they are known; It depicts both BTS and Hybe as complicit in supporting an alleged sexual predator, and it dismisses the voices of survivors who have been harmed by Chung. As a company, it is implied that you are condoning his behavior and are unconcerned about the impact and trauma of survivors of sexual violence. This is even more problematic as you and Bobby Chung will financially profit from the re-release of the song.

In 2020, BigHit released a statement about the Black Lives Matter movement, stating “(...) We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respected. We will stand together.” Don’t let this be a hollow phrase! On behalf of Ms. Song and all survivors, it is imperative that Hybe actively respects and stands together with all victims impacted by violence. We demand that you show your support for those impacted through your actions.  

ARMY largely consists of those who are female-identified, femme and queer.  They are the foundation of BTS’s success. Considering the huge impact BTS has on the global community, silence is not an option. To not distance yourself from Bobby Chung, to actively choose to ignore the gravity of this case and continue as if nothing has happened, normalizes this culture of violence. Please consider the immediate task at hand and take full responsibility in righting these wrongs.  Remove "Filter“ from the track list, cut all ties with this alleged sex offender, and take immediate action to ensure that he no longer profits from this or other tracks he contributed to with artists in the company. We demand that all songs attached to Chung's name are pulled off from all streaming sites to ensure that they are not reissued and performed in the future. Many army's have chosen to cancel their pre-orders of "Proof" because of this, please make the right choice. We know that due to legal reasons, your company may not be able to make a formal statement but these are all actionable steps that are within your control. This issue cannot wait, it is imperative that Hybe and BTS actively stands on the side of justice.
