Barn Assistant Job Description – Part-time-Temporary

Casa De Miel (CDM) Mission – We facilitate restorative experiences with horse and nature-based programs to promote deeper connections between people and the world around them.

Job Description – The Barn Assistant is primarily responsible for the daily care and maintenance of the horses, other farm animals, and their facilities. The key responsibilities include feeding, watering, cleaning stalls, grooming, and exercising horses.   The Barn Assistant role is part-time and temporary, with an anticipated end date of February 20, 2026. The position is Monday-Friday, 8a-2p. The hourly rate is $20/hour.  With notice, there is flexibility with the start and end times Monday through Friday.

Because CDM is an ecosystem and in collaboration with nature, many unforeseen circumstances and newly developed needs arise every day.  This role should be prepared to work with these unforeseen occurrences with the support of the CDM team.  

Daily Tasks:

  • Feeding horses and other animals, providing fresh water, and turning the horses out to pasture.
  • Cleaning – mucking out the stalls, cleaning water containers, and maintaining cleanliness of the barn and surrounding areas.
  • Grooming – brushing, grooming, and cleaning hoofs to keep clean and healthy.
  • Health monitoring – observing horse behavior for signs of illness or injury and reporting any concerns.
  • Basic medical care – administering medications, first aid, and assisting with veterinary appointments.
  • Assist with other tasks as needed.

Experience:

  • Experience working with horses.
  • Basic knowledge of animal husbandry, horse behavior, and barn safety.
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions, and work both independently and as a part of a team.
