Colorado League Volunteer Race Weekend Positions

Pre-Race

Truck Loading in Boulder. The Colorado League has a warehouse of equipment. Truck loading volunteers work with the Colorado League crew to put equipment on trucks quickly and neatly.

Course Setting. Course setting volunteers to assist with start and finish line set-up and marking the course with signage and course tape to ensure riders' safety and that they stay on course. Bring a bike and helmet.

In Field and Venue Set-up. Assist with the set-up of the expo area, Pit Zone, and other infield areas.  Set up tents, weights, and snow-fencing needed to create the Colorado League race venue.

Race Registration Assistant. Assist the Registration Manager with the distribution of race plates to teams and coaches. This is a great way to meet athletes, coaches, and parents from other teams.

Pre-Ride Roving Marshal. Roving Marshals keep the course safe by reporting incidents and injuries while circling the course or a specific area.  At Pre-Ride, Roving Marshals will be assigned a segment to patrol or be sent out in waves to circle the course.

Parking. Be the first to welcome student-athletes, their families, coaches and supporters as they enter the race venue. Often there is just enough space for our growing league to park, so it’s important to park cars in an efficient manner and please don’t forget to smile:).

Pit Zone Greeter. The Pit Zone Greeter welcomes and directs teams to their assigned spot in the Pit Zone. A map of the pit zone assignments will be provided to the Pit Zone Greeter who manages traffic flow in and out of the Pits.

Pre-Ride Course Sweep. The pre-ride course sweeps are responsible for riding the course at the end of pre-ride to ensure that the course is safe and clear of riders.

Race Day

Parking. Be the first to welcome student-athletes, their families, coaches and supporters as they enter the race venue. Often there is just enough space for our growing league to park, so it’s important to park cars in an efficient manner and don’t forget to smile:)

Volunteer Coordinator Assistant. Be an extra pair of hands for the Volunteer Coordinator in the busy Volunteer tent. Check-in volunteers and direct them to their positions.

Course Marshal. Please NOTE you must be 18 or older to sign up for this position.  Course Marshals have an important role in ensuring safety on the course. Course Marshals are stationed at key points along the course to warn riders of hazards, direct riders, ensure fair play and provide rapid response to incidents and evacuation due to inclement weather if necessary. It is the BEST place to be inspired by the racers!

Roving Course Marshal. Please NOTE you must be 18 or older to sign up for this position. Course Marshals on bikes! Roving Course Marshals keep the entire course safe by reporting incidents and injuries while circling the whole course or a specific area designated by the Chief Course Marshal.   They have the same responsibilities as Course Marshals, except they are riding the course (ensure fair play and provide rapid response to incidents and evacuation due to inclement weather if necessary).

Merchandise Tent. The Colorado League has merchandise to sell like shirts, jerseys, and hats. Merchandise volunteers handle money and swipe credit cards to raise money for the League.

Information Tent. The Information tent is the hub for information on race weekends. Course maps, call-ups, race start times, results, Pit Zone layout, Venue questions, and other information is here.

Category Sweep. Please NOTE you must be 18 or older to sign up for this position.   Sweeps ride at the end of race waves to provide additional communication and support out on the course. These volunteers ride their mountain bikes around the course, at the end of each race wave and tend to any issues that may arise on the course.  They communicate any issues and if they assist a rider with bike maintenance to Course Marshals.

Announcing Assistant. The announcing tent invites all racers and all families into the action. You'll be giving the announcer all the information they need to announce athletes as they cross the finish line and fill in when the announcer needs a break.

Timing Assistant. The timing assistant is at the heart of the action. This volunteer calls numbers and helps the timing team to assure that scoring is fair and correct.

Staging. This can be a tense area with nervous racers queuing for their starts. Volunteers help to make sure riders are ready to race and loaded into the start chute in an orderly manner.

Course Crossing. Safety is a priority for riders and spectators. The volunteers manage traffic across the racecourse, closing the crossing when riders are present. This is an excellent vantage point to watch the racers.

Feed Zone Marshal. The Feed Zone is a fast-paced area. As Feed Zone Marshal, you will be guiding all the parents, coaches and other volunteer feeders to keep the Feed Zone an orderly place for water and food hand-offs. Team Feed Zone volunteers MUST have a Feed Zone Badge. Please read the Feed Zone Rules in the Feed Zone area before starting your shift.

Finish Line Support. The finish line can be a busy place with racers, parents, and teammates. This volunteer helps manage the finish area so racers can exit the course safely.

YETI Skill Zone. The YETI Cycle Skills zone allows student-athletes to test themselves on our special skills course. You'll be there to watch with amazement and keep time for riders. Time-keeping and scorning will be used to determine the weekend's male and female Skills Master.

Post-Race

Course Take Down on Bikes. As soon as the last rider is off the course, volunteers on bikes, takedown the course markings and clean up the course. Backpacks are provided by the League to gather up race tape, signs, and other race-related debris. 

Venue Take Down/Truck Loading. At the end of racing, the Colorado League race crew starts the takedown and clean-up of the venue. Volunteer help is vital to get the venue down and loaded in good time.

Truck Unloading in Boulder. The Colorado League has a warehouse of equipment. Truck unloading volunteers work with the Colorado League crew to put away race equipment on quickly and neatly.
