Instruction Section Newsletter Submission Guidelines

The IS Newsletter is soliciting content! The newsletter editors would love to have your content that addresses:

  • Active learning techniques
  • Learning object creation
  • Student learning outcomes & pedagogy
  • Assessment
  • Instructional design (online, universal, backward, accessibility, etc.)
  • Instruction for special populations (e.g., faculty, international students, administrators, etc.)

Formats for Submission:

  • Short articles of 250-500 words
  • Annotated bibliographies or recommended reading lists of 250-500 words
  • “Bytes:”  Tweet-length announcements should be fewer than 200 characters with links to further information or visual assets. These are designed to be digestible, eye-catching, and to the point. Bytes may include:
  • reports on committee, liaison, discussion group, and conference program activity
  • award opportunities, nominations, and recipients
  • promotions for IS or ACRL publications or tools
  • advertisements describing upcoming events, webinars, conferences, workshops, courses, and virtual discussion series
  • announcements of continuing education and professional development opportunities
  • other pertinent items of direct interest to IS members

References

In-text references should be in Chicago Author-Date format.

Example: (Jones 2017)

Full references in Chicago style should be included at the end of the submission.

Links to Your Materials

When possible, please include a URL for materials you have created (e.g., posters, assignments, tutorials, etc.) related to your submission or other pertinent information about how readers can access the work.


About the IS Newsletter

The IS Newsletter is a biannual electronic publication of the Instruction Section of the Association of College & Research Libraries, a division of the American Library Association. Its purpose is to share practical information about instruction and topics relevant to instruction, recommended instruction-related reading lists, and section-related news, events and professional development opportunities. The IS Newsletter Editors accept submissions from IS members and other contributors. These pieces are not peer-reviewed.
