Howdy to all teachers seeing this online! Here’s a dumb idea I had for online students to learn about each other & build community. It worked pretty well, actually. I call it “A hyperlink to you”. Student directions are below the ellipses.
Click “File-->Make a copy” so that you can keep this in your Google drive & adjust it for your own classes. (Oh, and delete these italicized instructions before you share your own editable-by-all doc.)
After students have shared a hyperlink to them the first week, you can ask them to replace their link on this same page--this time directing students to something related to the course. Big virtual hugs & good luck! Joel

Howdy, students! This is going to be our space for building & sustaining community. Step 1: In the table below, please replace one image with a picture of you--one where we can see that it is you at a glance.
Step 2: Once that image is in place, create a hyperlink (ctrl-k) from that image to an online thing that we’d appreciate--an article that made you smile, your favorite buffalo sauce, a video that made you laugh, your favorite pair of shower slides, an image in a museum that you’ve always liked, a meme that is perfect for us now. Click mine to see what I mean.
Step 3: Once per cycle, we’re going to look through a couple of classmates’ recommendations & post a reflection about them in a discussion thread.
