LIZ W. GARCIA/ SCRIPT HELP
ONE-ON-ONE
In this program, we start with your work-in-progress draft. Maybe it’s a full first draft. Maybe it’s just a treatment, a half-draft, or your 12th draft. Whatever you’ve got, you know it’s not yet what you want it to be; you’re stuck. I’ll send you an intake form with questions about your goals for the script, overall goals for your writing career, and you’ll send it back with your answers and your draft. We will have a 90 or 60 minute Zoom meeting in which I’ll give you concrete, specific feedback about how to bridge the gap between your work-in-progress and the final product you desire.
feature script consult, 90 min zoom $1200
feature script consult, 60 min zoom $975
TV script consult, 90 min zoom $775
TV script consult, 60 min zoom $650
GROUP
In this program, a group of 2-4 friends want the benefit of learning as a group. This means reading each other’s work (full TV scripts or treatments/partial feature scripts, but not both mediums in one group) and learning from the feedback I give on each. The group element brings support and joy, and often leads to communities that read & encourage each other after the workshop ends. Depending on the size of the group, we will have 1-3 sessions.
Per person, feature coach group $550
Per person, tv coach group $495
CUSTOM
Perhaps you know that in order to finish your project, you need coaching that lasts for more than one draft. Or, perhaps you’d like help with a pitch document, a show bible. You’d like me to lead a long-term group with more frequent meetings so that you have time to pitch new ideas, or give feedback to your peers. Reach out and let’s discuss a customized coaching situation.
TESTIMONIALS
It is not hyperbole to say that Liz changed the course of my professional life. Beyond providing actionable and on-point guidance on screencraft, she challenged me to look inside and write the deeply personal thing only I could do. That next script got me staffed on a network show, it got me selected for The Black List’s Latinx TV List, and it is still kicking doors open for me.
What makes Liz Garcia amazing is how she listens. She listens with her heart and with her craft and with her experience. She deftly is able to understand YOUR story. With her compassionate, constructive feedback, I was able to write the thing I wanted to write, in a way that only I could write it. Working with Liz I grew confidence on the page that absolutely led to my first gig as a TV Writer.
Liz Garcia is an expert script consultant whose invaluable notes I am using to guide the rewrite of my newest script. Liz had the sneaky ability to point out the real flaws of structure and character in my screenplay, while simultaneously making me feel like I have the elements to write the best script in the world. She is driven by a deep love for cinema, an admiration for fellow writers, as well as years of experience perfecting her own art and craft of screenwriting. It is clear that she takes her work very seriously. Our session started with Liz asking questions related to story which immediately put me at ease. Writers are vulnerable when accepting notes, but she created a space where I felt free to face my weaknesses. She has a patience to her process and understands that the key to improving and refining the storytelling is to lean into it’s strengths. She gives ideas but doesn’t present them as solutions. I always balk when someone rewrites my script for me in a consultation, but Liz articulates her ideas in a way where you can interpret and make them your own. I guess what I’m really saying is that she makes it a point to “get” the work. And this, for me, is most important. I write about uncomfortable subjects and I’ve had an entire career of folks trying to water down my work and make it “palatable” or “marketable". Liz did not impose any sort of capitalist agenda onto the work. I’m not sure if she has one, but I never felt like I had written something “uncommercial” (the worst way to approach a creative worker). I’ve been writing film and television for 23 years. Early in my career I went through the Sundance labs and the Cinefondation of the Cannes Film Festival, and Liz Garcia is one of the best consultants I’ve ever worked with. Check her out!
- Laurie Collyer, writer/director (SHERRYBABY, SUNSHINE JR)
I work with writers all the time in my capacity as a producer, but when it came to my own work I needed an outside voice for clarity. Liz knew it was a very personal story for me and helped me to infuse the script with real emotion while also giving me the proper perspective to tell the story well.
Liz expertly helped me hone the structure of my screenplay to make it not only cleaner, but truer than it was.
Liz was very kind and provided lots of insightful and practical advice for making my pilot better and more marketable. I left feeling optimistic and like I had a roadmap of the writing process and a better understanding of industry expectations.
